A blog is truly a web log. We have chosen to shorten “web log” to “blog” because we, as Americans, like things simple. To blog, or blogging, is to regularly update a website or page, typically run by an individual or a small group. Also, the blog is written in a more informal style.
Okay, now that we are done with the Westfield School Blog introduction, I would like to introduce myself. I am Karen Ray, Westfield’s 1-8th grade art teacher. As many of you know, I have my own blog, Kim and Karen: 2 Soul Sisters (art education blog). My sister, Kim Cochran Daniel (Westfield Class of 1987), and I are both art teachers. We decided that we should have something “sisterly” to do on a regular basis. Waalaa! (told you it was informal) The blog was started on January 20, 2010. As the years have passed, the blog has really developed into a good resource for art education teachers worldwide. Last week, the “broad” concept of worldwide was derailed. The importance of writing a blog was to provide a Westfield family, the home folks, with a piece of normalcy through art.
As many of you know, Janet and Ken Hardy suffered a house fire last week. After seeing the picture below, I began to think, “Is there something that I can contribute to help this family feel a tiny bit less heartbroken? I thought-ART.
Shazaam! I realized that had the capability of providing the Hardy family with a few pieces of their lost art. After I scavenged my blog, my Ipad, and my flash drive, I found these 8 treasures.
Trae and Kate’s Art
All, today is January, 18, 2016. Many of you are off work due to the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Martin Luther King, Jr. was known for contributing to society. I challenge you to make time today to contribute to The Hardy Family in a way that is most meaningful to you.
And yes, I will choose to blog. I will blog to be a part of the art teachers willing to provide a part of their art world to other art teachers. Also, I will blog to have a “storehouse” of art for any Westfield family that might have a need in the future. And yes, I will blog so that me and my little sister will have something to fight about in the upcoming years!
